Windows server service pack 2 update affecting Sharepoint site creation

Has anyone else come across this problem? (and hopefully the solution)

After a recent update of Windows server service pack 2  we have not been able to create any new top sites.
The inital create site page is fine, when you move on to the Add link to site page and click ok everything just seems to stop. There is no error message and ok becomes greyed out. (You can leave here and still access the rest of the portal). The site is created in the tables but it hasn't completed the process (as no template for the layout of the site has been selected). If you type the address in manually it can't find the site.
Nothing else seems to have been affected, you can still create sub sites, add documents, news etc.
We have tried a number of solutions and nothing seems to solve this and we have been unable to find anthing about this elsewhere.

Re: Windows server service pack 2 update affecting Sharepoint site creation

Hi there - I'm also having this problem but do have a workaround.

When I create a site abd click OK I then manually type the link of the site that should have been created... eg ww.worksharepoint.com/sites/newsite and once this page opens it automatically redirects to the page where I normally select the site template.

After that the rest seems to work fine apart from the population of the Site Listing. I have to manually enter all the new site details into this page via the Edit in Datasheet option. Then the new site is listed on the Site Listing.

Obviously it's a bit of a pain, so I'm also wondering if anyone out there has a fix for this? Being kinda new to all this I can't say what's going wrong but it seems to be at the point when you click OK that it doesn't automatically add all the new site data onto the main Site Listing and also doesn't pop up a new window automatically with the new site on it. Probably doesn't help but I thought I'd mention it.

Ratty (not a looong time reader but a first time poster for sure)

    Hi,

I tried the data sheet view but all i get is a read only page and therefore am unable to do anything else.

At least Microsoft have finally acknowledged that this is a problem, hopefully (fingers crossed) they will come up with a patch soon and we won't have to do anything in a convoluted fashion

I'm not sure what can be done in the case of the Read-Only page as I've only just started using SharePoint although I'm actually enjoying using it alot.

You say Microsoft have acknowledged the problem. Do you have a link to this acknowledgement so that I can pass it on to the powers that be so they are aware of the situation here where I work.

    Thanks

    R.
